ReDI Talent Summit 2026: Nurturing Tech Talent and Building Strong Local Ecosystems
On June 30, 2026, the Munich Urban Colab was buzzing with energy, purpose, and inspiring conversations. The ReDI Talent Summit 2026 brought together students, tech leaders, corporate partners, political representatives, and volunteers to address one of the most pressing questions of our time: How do we build an inclusive, future-ready workforce in the era of Artificial Intelligence?
At ReDI School, our mission has always been clear: empowering people with limited access to digital education to step confidently into the tech ecosystem. Today, this journey spans the entire learning spectrum—from equipping learners with essential digital literacy skills for vocational training and further education to guiding advanced students into AI leadership roles.
Strong Roots in Munich: Insights from Dr. Christian Scharpf
We were deeply honored to welcome Dr. Christian Scharpf, Head of the Department of Labor and Economic Development of the City of Munich (Referat für Arbeit und Wirtschaft), who opened the summit with a powerful address.
Dr. Scharpf highlighted Munich’s role as a leading AI and innovation hub, emphasizing the long-standing partnership between the City of Munich and ReDI School through the Munich Employment and Qualification Program (MBQ). Through MBQ, the city invests directly in digital upskilling to ensure that social inclusion and economic sustainability go hand in hand—expanding digital literacy across tech, social, and care sectors.
Drawing from his visit to the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference in Austin, Texas, Dr. Scharpf shared a vital perspective on the future of tech:
“The success of a region does not depend on technology alone. What matters most is the strength of the entire ecosystem: talents, education, research, businesses, and collaboration. Technology is developed, applied, and shaped by people. To do this responsibly, we need well-trained individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.”
Career integration is a step-by-step journey. For many of our students, the next meaningful step isn't always an immediate full-time tech contract right out of the gate—it can also be entering further education, starting a vocational program (Duale Ausbildung), or gaining valuable career guidance through our strong network of partner organizations. ReDI talents are resilient, highly motivated, and skilled individuals who offer a direct answer to the regional shortage of qualified talent.
The Summit in Numbers
The event showcased the vibrant community that powers ReDI School every day:
160+ Total Participants: Including around 65 ReDI students and volunteers, 30+ team members, 30+ partner representatives, and 35+ guests from politics, media, administration, and the tech community.
Exhibiting Partners & Organizations: A huge thank you to all participating companies and career partners who engaged directly with our talents: CGI, Micron, Retarus, Paulaner Brauerei Gruppe, Bayerische Hausbau, Airbus, LHM Services, PowerM, IHK für München und Oberbayern, and Diakonia.
Cross-Sector Networking & Roundtable Leaders: Guest speakers, panel experts, and roundtable captains representing leading ecosystem players including Google, Microsoft, Deloitte, Cisco, AppliedAI, IPAI, the City of Munich, Capgemini, straight solutions, Heartprint, and the Female AI Club.
Panel Discussion: Beyond the Code — Shaping the Labor Market of Tomorrow
A central highlight of the morning was the panel discussion "Beyond the Code: What Kind of Intelligence Does the (Munich) Labor Market Need?", thoughtfully moderated by Louise Påhled (ReDI School). Bringing together diverse perspectives from global tech corporations, the public sector, AI research spaces, and recruiting experts, the panel explored how the rapid evolution of Generative AI is reshaping career pathways and human skill demands.
The panel featured:
Malte Will, Head of Partnerships for Social Impact & AI (EMEA) at Google
Dr. Christian Burkhart, AI Experience Space at AppliedAI
Sophie Jonke, Leitung Strukturwandel at Landeshauptstadt München
Alexandra Hanke, CEO at straight solutions
Malaica Come Petrich, Senior Recruiter & ReDI School Career Volunteer
Marcus Gerstmann, Small & Medium Business at Cisco
Core Takeaways from the Panel:
Shifting from Technical Dogma to Human-Centric Tech: As AI automates technical routines, the core competitive advantage of human workers is shifting toward critical thinking, ethical judgement, and cross-cultural adaptability. Panelists agreed that technology must serve humanity, requiring human intuition to guide automated processes responsibly.
Hiring for Potential & Growth Mindset: Traditional hiring models that look for "picture-perfect" past experience are becoming obsolete. Companies must adapt their recruiting strategies to value learning agility, curiosity, and problem-solving capacity above static resume credentials—a mindset that fits ReDI School’s resilient talent pool perfectly.
Public Sector & Economic Structural Transformation: Representing the local government, Sophie Jonke highlighted how Munich actively supports structural change. Demystifying AI across all sectors—including non-IT domains—is essential to prevent a social and digital divide within our local workforce.
Practical AI Education & Bridging the Gap: Malte Will (Google) and Marcus Gerstmann (Cisco) emphasized the role of tech leaders in democratization: making AI tools accessible, providing practical sandboxes for learning, and partnering with social education providers to ensure no one is left behind in the AI transformation.
Keynote & Roundtables: Women x AI
Directly following the panel, Klara Krieg (Microsoft) delivered an impactful keynote on Closing the Gender AI Gap, setting an urgent context for the roundtable sessions:
Higher Risk of Job Disruption: Women are overrepresented in administrative and support occupations most affected by Generative AI, exposing them to higher risks of job displacement.
Reinforcing AI Bias: AI systems reflect societal biases. Because fewer women actively use, prompt, and train AI models, automated systems risk falling short of designing solutions for women.
Underrepresented in Tech Leadership: While AI Developer and AI Leadership positions are skyrocketing on LinkedIn, women remain underrepresented in building these core technologies.
Klara’s keynote seamlessly segued into 7 Co-Creation Roundtables, where participants formulated actionable strategies to address these structural challenges:
Media & Perception (IPAI): Tackling the gender data gap and designing user-centric AI solutions.
Public Sector Innovation (City of Munich): Leveraging municipal tools (like mucGPT) to foster digital literacy beyond traditional IT roles.
Ethical AI (Heartprint): Promoting inclusive datasets and transparent governance structures.
Inclusive Learning (ReDI School): Lowering entry barriers, easing mental load, and highlighting relatable female role models.
Engineering & Vibe Coding (Female AI Club): Empowering female founders with no-code/low-code tools and AI capabilities.
AI in Consultancy (CGI): Replacing tech jargon with clear communication and creating dedicated "block time" for continuous learning.
Vocational Training & AI (ReDI School): Utilizing AI as a personalized tutor and language partner for students preparing for the German vocational system (Ausbildung).
